The Interactive Media in Retail Group expects consumers will spend a massive £186.4m online on Christmas Day this year.  Boxing Day spend is expected to almost double that at £367.8m, with these estimates representing a 12% increase on the total spends last year.

Electrical specialist Comet also expects high volumes of sales and is predicting that its website will attract 5.2 million visits during the Christmas period between Christmas Eve and 3rd January 2012, as consumers rush to snap up some of the best deals the retailer has ever offered.

Comet expects it will see a surge of 370,000 bargain hunters going online between 7pm-8pm on Christmas Day, as they surf the net for the best deals on their laptops in front of the TV Christmas Specials. This year, the big online sale starts at one minute past midnight on Christmas Eve at www.comet.co.uk and in stores on Boxing Day.
